The NAPE Education Foundation supports three lines of business: Professional Development; Technical Assistance; and Research and Evaluation. The premier professional development program, STEM Equity Pipeline, started with funding from NSF in 2007, is a research-based professional development and technical assistance program focused on increasing the participation of women and girls in STEM related programs of study at the middle, high school and community college level. STEM Equity Pipeline has three professional development programs: 1) Program Improvement Process for Equity in STEM (PIPE-STEM™); 2) Micromessaging to Reach and Teach Every Student™ (Micromessaging); and 3) Focus on Counselor Initiative (FoCI). PIPE-STEM works with school-based teams of administrators, teachers, counselors and staff to change the institutional culture; Micromessaging works with teachers/faculty to change the culture of the classroom; and FoCI works with counselors to provide them with tools and strategies to ignite student interest in STEM. In 2016, over 7000 educators participated in these programs in over 900 schools in 41 states. NAPE holds an annual conference in Washington, DC where more than 200 equity professionals across the nation receive professional development on workforce development and education strategies for underserved populations. The Foundation develops online accessible resources for educators that include online courses, webinars, toolkits, posters, lesson plans, student activities, and parent resources all focused on increasing underrepresented student’s interest in STEM careers.
