Bootstrap’s mission is scalable, rigorous and equitable CS education for all. We offer a family of research-based curricular modules for grades 6-12, some of which are designed to embed in existing courses taught by teachers with little to no prior computing background. Embedding modules targets equity: we bring computing to classes that all students already take (such as algebra) rather than rely on opt-in computing classes. Our modules build on and reinforce core concepts from algebra; this enables non-CS teachers to adopt our introductory materials, while also covering interesting and rigorous computing content. Our materials are designed to help both students and teachers grow in their computing knowledge. Our algebra module (Bootstrap:1) teaches students to program their own video games using algebraic and geometric concepts; it can be integrated into a standalone CS course or a mainstream math class (taught by a teacher with no prior computing background) and aligns with national and state mathematics standards. Our other modules explore programming with data structures, physical phenomena and simulations, lightweight data science, and AP Computer Science Principles. Teachers can mix-and-match content across various modules to tailor our approach to their instructional contexts.
